HOUSE SUPPORT DA’S UNITY IN PURPOSE REFORM PROGRAM FOR NFA TO LOWER FOOD PRICES

Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez expressed full support for the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) proposal to reform the National Food Authority (NFA) in order to lower rice prices, assist farmers, and stabilize the country’s food supply system.

The DA’s proposal, submitted to Malacañang, aims to restore the NFA’s authority to purchase palay (unhusked rice) at fair prices and ensure sufficient rice supply to stabilize market prices.

The proposed measure also seeks to restructure the NFA and clearly define its role in supporting farmers and protecting consumers.

Speaker Romualdez said the House of Representatives will promptly act on the proposed legislation once it is formally submitted to Congress.

He added that this proposal speaks to the unity of purpose among members of the House majority coalition: to prioritize the needs of ordinary Filipinos, especially the farmers who feed our nation and the consumers who struggle with rising food prices.
